Medecins du Monde Turkey (MDM-T) / Dünya Doktorları Derneği (DDD) is a Turkish based humanitarian non-governmental organisation that facilitates access to healthcare for populations affected by armed conflict, violence, natural disasters, disease, famine, poverty and exclusion. 

Our organization collaborates with partners and key stakeholders to implement projects that facilitate access to primary and secondary-level healthcare services to respond to the medical needs of displaced population. 

DDD is the 16th member of the Doctors of the World International Network that is committed to meeting the health needs of vulnerable people globally.

HIERARCHICAL & FUNCTIONAL LINKS
Based at DDD Headquarter, Istanbul, the General Director reports to the President and the Board of Directors.

Status:  Fixed-Term Contract (with possible extension)
Expected Starting Date: 01.10.2024

Job Summary 

The General Director provides visionary, knowledge-based, strategic leadership for the effective implementation of the organization’s mission and goals. To do so, the General Director will work in collaboration with the President, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and partners to lead the organization in developing the knowledge, infrastructure, culture, and competencies necessary to continue to grow as an internationally respected organization. The General Director is responsible to supervise all programs, services, staff, and ensures the organization’s efficiency within the approved budget.

EXPECTED PROFILE

·       Knowledge & Qualification & Experience

·       Master’s degree in public health, International Development, or a related field

·       Minimum 10 years of relevant senior-level management experience in international relief and development programs

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills

·       Demonstrated record of collaboration and partnership-building for programmatic success

·       Demonstrated record of effectively leading a high-performance, outcomes-based international team

·       Demonstrated experience in organizational management with the ability to coach team members, manage and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a multi-million Euro annual budget

Languages

·       Required: English (oral and written)

·       Desired: Turkish, French, Arabic

IT & Equipment

·       Good proficiency with Microsoft package

·       Sense of diplomacy and ability to resolve conflicts

·       Stress tolerance and ability to work under pressure

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Vision and Leadership

·       Collaborate with the President and the Board of Directors to implement the Strategic Plan, while ensuring that the budget, team, and priorities are aligned with the organization’s core mission.

·       Provide leadership and guidance to all team members and ensure the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization.

·       Remain up to date in the best and innovative practices of international relief and development to inspire and advise the staff in program development and implementation.

Financial Management and Revenue Generation

·       In Collaboration with Finance, oversee the financial status of the organization including developing long- and short-term financial plans, monitoring the budget, and setting fundraising goals and financial priorities in consultation with the Board of Directors and President.

·       In collaboration with the Grants and Fundraising units, ensure the development and implementation of the fundraising strategic plan, including the donors.

·       Serve as the spokesperson of the organization and use external presence and relationships to maintain and develop new funders, partnerships, and opportunities

·       Seek funding through creative avenues, including traditional fundraising and donor engagement, contributing to the writing and securing of grants from charitable foundations, pursuing corporate sponsorships, public partnerships, social enterprise models, special events, etc.

·       Ensure timely reporting to program funders and other key stakeholders.

Program Support

·       Spearhead strategic and long-term planning for programmatic growth and impact.

·       Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of all programs to ensure quality, sustainability, and responsiveness to community and organizational needs (directly managed by the team, which the General Director supports in fulfilling their responsibilities).

·       In collaboration with relevant departments/units, ensure programs are aligned with best practices by upholding monitoring and evaluation frameworks and effectively utilizing data and outcomes to inform program decisions and design.

·       Communicate results to the Board of Directors, President, funders, donors, and other stakeholders.

Representation and Communication

·       Oversee the development of a strategic plan for advocacy.

·       Represent the organization at international meetings, conferences, and events as needed (including MdM Network meetings and events)

·       Be a local, national, and international leader by publishing and communicating program results as a model for other regional and international efforts.

·       In collaboration with Communication department, deepen and refine all aspects of communications with the goal of creating a stronger brand.

·       In collaboration with the General Secretary serve as the primary organization liaison to the Board of Directors by advising and informing Board members and interfacing between the Board and the team.

·       In collaboration with the General Secretary cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board of Directors to ensure open communication about the measurement of financial, programmatic, and impact performance against stated milestones and goals.

HR Management

·       Create an environment that supports the personal and professional growth of staff resulting in a high-functioning, results-oriented team.

·       Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration by strengthening internal communications in support of the organization’s strategy, operational methods, and data collection needs.

·       Engage regularly in effective communication with the team to ensure high performance and commitment to the goals of the organization.

Reporting

·       Provide regular reporting to the President and the Board, upon his/her solicitation

·       Provide a mission report and/or handover document at the end of contract

Other tasks related to the position

·       Perform any other duties related with his/her positions, as required by DDD President and Board.

Promote and encourage a culture of compliance and ethics throughout Dünya Doktorları Derneği. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of Dünya Doktorları Derneği and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity. Communicates these values to staff and to partners and requires them to adhere to these values.

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within Dünya Doktorları Derneği and amongst beneficiaries served by Dünya Doktorları Derneği.
