Medecins du Monde Turkey (MDM-T) / Dünya Doktorları Dernegi (DDD) is a Turkish based humanitarian non-governmental organisation that facilitates access to healthcare for populations affected by armed conflict, violence, natural disasters, disease, famine, poverty and exclusion.


Our organization collaborates with partners and key stakeholders to implement projects that facilitate access to primary and secondary-level healthcare services to respond to the medical needs of displaced population.


DDD is the 16th member of the Doctors of the World International Network that is committed to meeting the health needs of vulnerable people globally.

Based in Izmir, the Health Counsellor is under the line management of the Field Coordinator, and technical supervision of Medical Coordinator.

EXPECTED PROFILE


Education & Qualification
 

·        Degree in midwifery

·        Degree in nursing 

​Professional Experience 

·        4  years experience in a clinical setting 

Languages 

·        Required: Turkish

·        Preferred : English or Arabic

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Case management and referral

·        Conduct household visits accompany with the rest of the team in order to provide basic case screening from health perspectives

·        Identify/approve the cases that meet DDD vulnerable criteria and feed the assessment/ referral forms prepared by the case workers with the health required inputs to finalize the forms accordingly 

·        Conduct on regular basis follow up meeting/ calls/ discussions with the case workers to review and approve the case registration

·        Lead the coordination with the referral health facilities to ensure successful referrals. Speak directly to the hospital/ medical centres focal points especially for immediate referral and seek the medical coordinator support when needed

·        Schedule and supervise case management meetings at least twice a week which are mainly to verify the collected cases. Share the minutes of case management meetings with team and senior management

·        From his/her level, revise and approve the urgent and elective referral cases and prioritise them according to the level of the health case severity

·        Seek the senior management and medical coordinator approval regarding the urgent and elective referral cases when need

·        When required explain the case condition and the intervention required to the patient and her/his family if applicable 

·        Review case workers caseloads to ensure they are manageable and share challenges with senior management

·        Monitor timescales for response, decision-making, placement, follow-up and review

·        When required follow up with the referral health facilities focal points to get updates about the case developments and include them in the assessment form

·        Disseminate awareness raising messages to the beneficiaries individually and in groups about relevant health issues communicable diseases, noncommunicable diseases, life style and nutrition 

Reporting

·        Providing regular reporting on her/his activities to the line manager/ medical coordinator and upon request

·        The reports to include a summary about the cases served under the identified DDD criteria including the awareness raising activities as well as the challenges faced

·        Providing the line manager with a Handover Report at the end of the contract 

Other related duties

·        Participate in assessments with the Medical Supervisor, where and when necessary

·        Ability to travel and relocate if it is requested

·        Represent and actively participate in any relevant meetings, as requested by Medical coordinator and the protection officer

·        Participate in internal work meetings

·        Report any security related issues to the line manager

·        Support operational organisation of field trips and DDD activities

·        Any other relevant duties requested by the line manager
