The MHPSS Field Manager based in Northwest Syria works for all DDD MHPSS operations in NWS under the administrative direction of the Program Medical Manager and the technical direction of the MHPSS Manager. 

 

S/He will be the technical referent for the following staff:  

 

▪ Psychologists in Northwest Syria 

▪ Psychosocial Workers in Northwest Syria.            

 

Status:Fixed-term

EXPECTED PROFILE

 

Knowledge & Qualification

·       Master’s /Bachelor degree or equivalent in psychology – clinical or counselling psychology 

Experience

·       2 years’ experience minimum as a manager in I/NGOs

·       Experience in similar role in humanitarian assistance/with other Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) is desirable.  

 Languages

·       Required: Engliah and Arabic  (oral and written)

·       Preferred: Turkish

 

IT & Equipment

·        Good proficiency with Microsoft package 

Communication & Information flow

·        Good communication skills with teamwork, and patients 

·        Good reporting skills

General Qualities required: 

·        Diplomatic; 

·        Flexibility and capacity of adapt to complex and changing contexts; 

·        Ability to work in an international context and collaborate with international and national experts;

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Programming, planning and implementation of the MHPSS activities 

·        Strategize and plan the MHPSS intervention of DDD in line with the specific and emerging needs of the project locations 

·        In line with the DDD strategic plan, establish and follow road plan for MHPSS activities, considering general and specific needs and the advancement of DDD’s MHPSS activities 

·        Lead the planning and oversee MHPSS program activities in the project areas, in coordination with the Protection Officer and Team Leaders 

·        Adapt integrated approach in programme implementation, work closely with the Protection Officer, Team Leaders, MEAL Officers, Programme Medical Manager, and to ensure a unified strategy and coordinated actions 

·        Supervise and ensure that mental health activities (in and outside health facilities), with the beneficiaries are performed with regular follow-up and according to all DDD protocols and standards in order to provide the most appropriate treatment for clients with psychosocial problems ensuring mental health team is calm and neutral during sessions regardless of personal feelings and/or beliefs. 

·        Review and develop the technical material, tools, guidelines and documents elaborated for the mental health activities in order to develop appropriate support for beneficiaries by working closely with the MHPSS Manager 

·        Share problematic situations and cases with the MHPSS Manager for help with decision making and problem resolution. 

·        Responds and/or assists with emergency interventions relating to complex cases on the field 

·        Contribute preparation of the DDD Advocacy plan in his/her area of responsibility 

·        Contribute to content development by working closely with the MHPSS Manager (SOPs, Project Proposal, etc.) 

·        Advise to the HR department on staff wellbeing 

 

 

Technical Support & Supervision: 

·        Provide technical advice and guidance to the MHPSS field teams, and be the technical referent for MHPSS teams in NWS 

·        Create and update job profiles of MHPSS staff and participate actively in recruitment processes 

·        Conduct regular need assessment with field staff and ensure that training, supervision, and staff care is adjusted to the needs of field staff and programs 

·        Lead regular technical meetings of field teams and ensure adequate communication flow among team and with coordination on all matters relevant to the delivery of MHPSS services 

·        Ensure good communication among team is in place, and internal referral paths are established, in order to provide client-centered care. 

·        Promote self-care and staff-care practices and processes 

 

Training & Capacity Building: 

  • Facilitate training and supervision of MHPSS staff to identify and properly manage existent mental health disorders. 
  • Train MHPSS workers to deliver evidence-based interventions that alleviate psychological and emotional distress. 
  • Build the capacity of MHPSS staff in promoting and strengthening community psychosocial support skills. 
  • Train MHPSS staff on identifying and providing tailored services to vulnerable and/or at-risk groups (children, elderly, GBV survivors, war injured etc.) 

 

 Developing Community MHPSS Interventions 

·        Participate in assessments of new sites/locations for MHPSS service delivery. 

·        Participate in defining effective and culturally appropriate approaches and interventions to respond to the MHPSS needs of the community. 

·        In collaboration with the MH team, develop and utilize innovative evidence based preventative mental health interventions. 

·        Promote and strengthen existent community support networks. 

 

Monitoring & Evaluation 

·        Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation processes for all MHPSS field activities. 

·        Ensure that all necessary MHPSS beneficiary forms and files (intake forms, progress reports, individual assessments etc.) are completed and properly stored as per DDD protocols. 

·        Evaluate beneficiaries’ satisfaction and quality of care provided. 

·        Assess and evaluate the quality of all MHPSS activities and interventions taking place on the field. 

·        Responsible for compiling reports on current activities to be submitted to the MHPSS Manager in İstanbul  

·        Assist in the analysis of data to detect potential risk factors influencing the mental health status of the surrounding population. 

 

Representation 

·        Attend inter-agency coordination meetings and represent DDD whenever required. 

·        Contribute to the development of partnerships with local and international stakeholders necessary for proper MHPSS service delivery. 

·        Participate in DDD internal meetings and individual meetings with MHPSS Manager. 

 

Reporting 

§  Provide regular reporting on your activities to your line-managers upon they request 

§  Provide your line managers with a Handover Report at the end of your contract. 

 

Other Duties 

·        Report any security related issues to the line manager 

·        Support operational organization of field trips and DDD activities 

·        Available for frequent travels for monitoring of field activities in Syria 

·        Any other relevant duties requested by the line manager
